EurOmnis
2007 was a big hit
"When
Fred planned EurOmnis 2007 he dramatically changed the format. There was some confusion
mixed with some uncertainty. No one knew exactly what to expect: speakers were unsure of
how to approach the new format, attendees felt the same. As it turned out, none of us need
have worried, the new format was a huge success.
The
new session format was a very brave move on Fred's part. But it worked, in spite of the
uncertainty about the logistics of it. There were some 10 sessions to choose from, each
morning, afternoon and evening of every day. The sessions were of small groups of 6 to 8
people. Because of the small groups, and the closeness of the members something happened.
Every session, from the moment it began, turned into a guided tour with discussions around
every corner. Every member became involved. It was the perfect format for an all round
knowledge sharing experience where the boundaries between speaker and attendee
disappeared. In the end, even the logistics posed no problem at all. It just fell into
place.
Attendees
repeatedly told me how much they had learned at this conference, much more than at any
previous conference they had attended. And this was only after the second day!
In
addition, we had the usual Raining Data presentation, plus presentations by Apple Europe.
And of course, there was the famous 101 course given by David Swain.
Personally, from a speakers point of view, I loved every minute. Yes, it was hard
work, there were many sessions to give, and from an attendees point of view, many sessions
to visit. But amongst all the hard work, the learning, the teaching, it was also great
fun, and on top of all this I earned a lot of new business in a very nice hotel, at an
outstanding location with breathtaking views."
